I dont know much (cough...cough...nothing...cough) about butterflyfishbut but I heard that butterflyfish will eat invertebrates and a lot of corals but do butterflyfish actually eat the coral because I saw this one video where it said the butterflyfish dont normally harm the corals (think it's not true so asking you) the second question is will they harm larger invertebrates. The third (and last) question is will an anemone be safe with a pair of maroon clownfish in it. The tank is very large so the butterflyfish will have tons of places to hide to avoid as much aggression as possible.
thanks in advance (-:

It depends on what species of butterfly it is. Pyramid, zoster, copperband, longnose, and Heniochus diphreutes are all fairly safe. The rest range in fairly likely to nip to obligate coralivores.

If maroons are hosting in an anemone, then that anemone will be quite safe.

I know maroon clowns will protect an anemone but what about some of the semi aggressive clownfish? Like a black saddleback or Allard's anemonefish. so I can keep more then one anemone.

It depends on the size of the tank whether or not the maroons will tolerate another pr of clowns. Maroons are a very aggressive clown. They need about 4-6' per pr.

I dont want the maroons I want the anemone so I was hoping to get two clowfish that are less likley fight as often but will protect the anemone(s). My aquarium is a 475 gallon FOWLR. It is peaceful but most the fish aren't easily bullied.

The clarkii complex and skunk complex are the most likely to host in an anemone, and therefore defend it.
