Button Scoly's

I purchase my first scoly and it was about 1.5" diameter. Not sure if that is button or not, but was cheaper due to the size. Nice to watch it grow.

Just the newest hype coral. They’ve been around awhile but recently they’ve come in some really nice colors instead of the basic red and green. Throw the cool name “croc island scoly” and charge insane prices to whip fools into a frenzy.

They are different coral than S. australis though.

I was just thinking the same thing today when looking at a posted update at a vendors website. $399 for a red scoly just because it was a "croc". I wonder if the "croc" name is being thrown around now to get a lot more for what we used to see as a regular button scoly? I honestly have only seen a couple of "crocs" that looked better then the button scolys I've seen over the last few years. ASD used to have some really nice ones in the $50 to $100 range.

croc and button two different ones... i hear button ones are pretty mean.they come from western australia?

I see a lot of button scolys on AquaSD. Price doesn't look too insane

Looks like AquaSD has jumped on the bandwagon based on their current pricing. Can't blame them since people seem to be willing to pay the price just to have the "croc" name in it.

Love their stuff but definitely notorious for creating many names for simular/same corals

Button and croc island scolys are nothing alike, as similar as a cynarina and an acanthophyllia. Croc island scolys are awesome. Have you even seen one in person? Button scolys are much smaller, less meaty scolys and their price reflects that.

Yes I have and the 10x price markup is not worth it in my opinion. I've seen some non croc scolys in the $100 range that with a "croc" name in front of it would be $1000. But all this is probably going to be the norm in a few years. With everything shutting down prices are just going to keep going up and up. Of course my perspective is jaded since I've been in this hobby since the 80's and I remember getting maxima clams for $20 and zoa rocks covered with 100+ for $20. I figure I will be priced out of the hobby in 5 to 10 years.
