I have been in the hobby long enough where I forget why I removed a particular setup last time...

This would include going back and forth on:

- Full calcium tractor setup for large tanks and 2 part
- removing sand bed and adding sand bed only to remember again why I had removed to begin with and remove again. Rinse and Repeat
- and going back and forth with large T5 fixture and LED fixtures over my tank

To be clear the final (hopefully) answer for me on all of the above is 2 part, no sand bed and LEDs.

This time I am putting a tatto on my hands

Bought a 1single head of aussie gold torch. It melted in a couple of weeks. Bought a 5 heads colony right after. They melted. Lost 6 heads in a month. [emoji31]

Mine was a Scopas tang that I did not QT and brought along with it Marine Velvet. Took out all my ish but 2 now that sucks and of course from petco I should have known better.

I got rid of magnetic glass cleaners after the first time I forgot it on my glass with children around.....

Latest one was a Kamoer X1 doser albeit in the black and blue H2ocean livery

...a nice little doser other than one very serious design fault...it turns out that after a power outage they just flash red and will not continue dosing until reconnected to the app....completely useless if you are away or just don't notice it flashing so its claim to be an automatic doser is probably better described as a semi-automatic doser

No. I have around 20 heads of indo torches and they all doing well. Zoas grow like weed. Hammers also good.

You dont use LED now? And what ATOs so i can avoid hehe

Anything that is held in place with only suction cups. Powerheads, algae clips, thermometers. ARGH!

I remember in my first few months how shocked I was that a magnetic algae clip was 10x the price of a suction cup. It took me a long time to learn that properly sealed rare earth magnets are needed in salt water.

I thought I was beating the expensive pump game when I brought home a jebao double powerhead for 50$. The mount was 3 suction cups, they even had those fancy toggle clips to lock them down. It took 2 days before I came home from work and found my powerhead on the bottom at one end of the tank, and all my sand at the other.

My worst remorse is; I bought an 80 gal Nuvo tank from Innovative Marine and it fell apart after 6 months. I had to move a tank full of everything to a now 125 gal. What happened to the Nuvo? I put it on Craig's List and gave it away for free. IM would not back up their tank. They told me it was out of warranty after 6 months, they did NOTHING for me!!!!!
After that it was a Scopas Tang, it's the terror of my tank. Try catching one to take back to the lfs, I will have to drain my tank.

I'm another one regretting buying a 27" tall tank, with a canopy. With all of the lights under the canopy it makes maintenance a nightmare! Next tank will be a 16" tall lagoon.

For myself it would be buying Vibrant to try and tackle bubble algae...it killed all of my livestock bar one organ pipe and a setosa which pulled through...oh and it didn't effect the bubble algae at all

Good to know. I've considered the Vibrant briefly. Then heard of many disasters like yours.

Mine was buying the Klir filter. Thought it would be a great replacement from my filter socks but it lets do much detritus through it now lives in a bucket, wasted money imo.

I have had the worst luck with buying lower cost items, just won't do it anymore. Like pumps and power heads a lot of people have had good luck with them I bought some Jabeo stuff the power heads lasted a whole 2 weeks, the pump lasted a little over a month. Then there was the lights lol

Back in 98, when I started reefing, Condy anemones were all my LFS had. Maybe a carpet from time to time. So I had one with a clown hosting it. Decided to try a long nose butterfly. The LFS said it would be fine. That fish didn’t last an hour! Next would be a 56 tall aquarium I bought. Never could get good flow in that tank. Best we had were Maxi jet power heads. Took 3 per side, and the sand bed was still lacking flow. Today it is almost too easy! Thank goodness!!

A lot of space between the rock and the top of the tank ... and I just always looked at it and thought I needed to fill that void. If that make sense.

And cleaning was not fun. Was up to my shoulder in water

Omg, I feel the same way. Ticks me off to have to get soaked just to move one thing. grrrr.

-Buying a 50g tank, skimmer, heater, and lights then buying a 125g three months later and starting over again.

-Buying a sea star before the tank was stable enough and watching it rip his arms off

-Buying Black sand, then tearing it down to change the sand to brown

-Buying cheap lights

-Buying tomato clownfish and watching the female take over the whole tank and terrorize everyone

-Buying a used acrylic tank and not sanding it prior to set up

-Buying Banggai Cardinalfish pair and watching the male starve himself almost every month because of mouth brooding.

-Buying Melafix and adding it to my tank

-Buying tigger pods and trying to grow them in the sump

-Buying an algae scraper and scraped the acrylic all over

-Buying a cheap heater and electrocuting myself
