I am looking at purchasing a used (store unit) Red Sea e-170. Has sump but needs pump, heater and lights. Price is $400.
My main concern is that the front glass is scratched (several scratches) and I can feel some with my finger nail.

They say once I fill the tank with water they are hardly noticeable..if at all.

How true is this? My research shows that it's nearly impossible to buff out or removes glass scratches... Not worth the money or time.

I'll be happy if the scratches are not really noticeable after I fill it up.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the help and suggestions ,Cheers

Removing glass scratches is likely to cause other scratches or fogginess. They are often less noticeable when full, but what makes them noticeable is when algae grows in them they're quite obvious. A magic eraser on a magnet takes care of that issue, generally.

Welcome to the site. 400$ seems like a pretty good deal to me. I have a Redsea e-260 and I’ve put a few scratches in it myself. Bound to happen sooner or later. As long as there not to bad I wouldn’t worry about it. Dustin

Depends on how you are with it. Even the smallest scratches are noticeable for me with algae in them or not. Most likely, you will see them, and then when they get algae in them, they will be more noticeable. How old is that tank? Red Sea tanks are made in China and personally I wouldn't buy one over five years old and that I knew was kept perfectly level. There are a few threads around with those tanks having seem failures.

Thanks for the input. I am leaning towards saving some $ then going new. The store owner was saying that some kits are not available because Red Sea is changing the kits with Red Sea lights. H'm?
