Hey all,

I’ve found a local reefer that’s going to tear down and sell his Red Sea Reefer 250. It’s currently empty, just needs to be disassembled and cleaned. It’s got a Synergy Sump, Kessil AP700’s, Apex system, Neptune COR, gyre wave maker... plus more I think. The price is really attractive... anything I should ask or look for??

Make sure the equipment is working order. Look at the seams for any separation/bubbles. Look for any soft places in the wood of the stand. I would rather see it set up (built in water test) but not always possible.

That's a very nice equipment list.

thank you. The seller says the tank is just over a year old, all the equipment is less than. I assume if it should have a leak I can reseal it?

I intend to set it up in the garage and run it just with tap water to make sure for 24-hr or so. (Plus it needs to be cleaned)

Resealing a tank would require disassembling the glass and putting it back together. The silicone that is between the glass is what is critical/seals. Removing the silicone in the corners and replacing it would not be a fix.

It can be done but it's a bigger deal than I have the skills to do.

At that age it would be very unusual for there to be any problem with the seals!

Got it. I feel pretty good about it. I’ll report back after I check it out tomorrow.

Anything stand out?

Just keep an eye out for tank seems and stand swelling as it's just cheap particle board.
