Buying a used system that has been sitting empty for 4+ years

take that 400 buy a good newer condition tank and hand pick gear that you want versus what is simply in the deal

i saw stellar deals all the time for almost new set ups in the 400 range and less of people who just wanted out.... some were up and running with the newest high end gear

i’m seeing a lot of the words “broken” and “missing” plus tank looks poor? if it was 200 i’d say to for it... for 400 you can buy some legitimate stuff

Buying a used tank is always risky. It would be better just to spend the extra money.

If everything works as intended then it's not a bad deal. If you have to throw $ at it especially pumps etc... then probably not. If the tank doesn't leak then and everything's working that is a decent price. I would make sure the tank doesn't leak and everything that comes with it is functioning, so you dont end up dropping $ on it to get everything working.

Hello everyone,
New to the fourm and somewhat new to reefing.
Looking at buying a 50gallon setup with stand. The tank was setup for about 2+ years and was taken down and has sat empty for 4 and a half years. Comes with everything but a sump the sump had gotten broken moving it.
Equipment
2 mp10s with 2 extra wetsides.
1 mp40 with broken wetside.
Neptune classic with few add-ons including wifi etc (not 100% sure what's there)
2 return pumps (said they were around $200 each)
2 protein skimmers.
All the plumbing except for a few parts.
4 bulb t5 fixture with 4 brand new bulbs in box
2 heaters with themostats
Tank has center overflow
I have a 29 gallon or so wet dry sump from my old 75 gallon setup
$400 for the whole setup

Is this worth it to buy even it if the tank may wind up leaking ? Tank will be in the basement

I got a used rimless for free after it was empty for about 2 years and sitting empty outside in my truck for about 3 months it’s built like a tank. Filled with water never looked back.

Red Sea is a high end brand but still, transporting a tank can cause leaks.

Red sea is complete garbage I had a brand new red sea tank about 3 years ago. 6 months after setting it up and fully stocking it the front panel just blew out on me. There tanks are made in China

Really!? I’ve never owned one my self just Biocube coral life and a 10 gallon aqueon but I’ve heard so many good things about them. I thought they were like the the mercedes Benz of fish tanks.

I've had nothing but issues with red sea products,do not ever buy there lighting you will be so upset. Constantly disconnecting from wifi,also the time zone would glitch in the app about once or twice a week and you have to take the light apart and reset the watch battery. Delete the app and set it up again, constantly having to set your schedule. Got the algae control test kit and the foundation test kit, both of them came with reagents leaking all over the inside. The coral pro salt will gunk up your pumps when when your mixing the water, and leaves a brown coating on everything you have to scrub off every 2 mixes.

Wow that’s messed up. So you’re better off buying a new tank that’s not Red Sea it seems like. Aqueon tanks have been good to me.

Believe it or not I ran to Petco and got a 20 long aqueon tank to try to save what I could of the red sea and that tank only lasted about 3 months before it developed a small leak. It was part of a recall I later found found that Petco didn't pull yet. Resealed it and it's been good when I had it set up going to turn it into the sump for this tank

Yes aqueon is what my 120g is made by. They have stood the test of time in my opinion. I like Crystal dynamics for the high end fish tanks and SCA for the lower end. Cadlight is another honorable mention. I have a 60g versa cadlight and it is a beautiful tank.

Its a 50 or 57 gallon deep blue rimless tank
Got think 36 inch t5 unit,think I'm going to switch to a brand new 48 inch t5 unit I have laying around for 10years.
Mp40 will have to be picked up another day he couldn't find it
Turns out the Apex classic was a Apex lite ,would have to buy new pH probe,2 of the black power bars (1 4 slot and 1 bigger one) has the wifi setup and display.
Neptune auto top off kit.
Jbj auto top off kit (2 brand new sensors aswell)
3 protein skimmers (going to give 2 away to new local reefers)
The one I'll keep is the reef octopus with the cleaning head.
8 heaters ,random power head,refugium with 2 lights. Aqualifter. 1 reef octopus return and 1 ehiem return,
Mp10s both work one had little damage to wire coating.
2 ai Sol 2nd gen with wireless controller and regular controller.
Ton of misc PVC parts,extra bulk heads.
Phosban reactor,some other reactor I'm not sure of.
Looking for a sump or will turn 20L into sump
And more stuff that I have to go through and check
