When buying used live rock that’s covered in algae and slim, is there a way to clean it and get it to start fresh? Could I use a soak? Or boiling? Just want to figure out the best way and get some ideas thanks.

If you boil it and there are any zoanthids thats a serious health risk so you shouldnt boil it

soak it in vinegar overnight for a mild cleaning...

muriatic acid for a couple of minutes to an hour for a heavy duty cleaning

bleach to kill anything and whiten the rock without removing any rock

be sure to soak it in RO/DI water to remove any of the chemicals you soaked it in and rinse it several times

i have used vinegar and water 50/50 and made some hair algae covered rock that also had some nuisance green star polyps and mushrooms and aptasia real nice again..
