I have been offered a 120 gallon tank with lid for $150. I am just getting into the hobby and am wondering if this is a good deal? Also is this to big of a tank for a beginner? Thanks!

If there are no scratches on it and it holds water. That's a pretty good deal. I live in ontario too and new 120's are usually $400-$550 new

Hi! Welcome to the hobby! I'm new myself. I've only got a small 30 gallon tank. Wish I had a larger setup but larger tanks are a little more complicated for me right now. Cost more, too. $150 sounds like a good deal to me. a 55 gallon tank around here runs about that price. Does it come with a stand, too? Lighting? That would be awesome.

Hey and welcome to the hobby! I think that's a great deal for a 120. You will also be able to keep tangs happy with a tank that size if your so inclined. Tank size IMO is really about how much maintenance you want to do. A 10% weekly water change on a tank that size is 12g. Figure 15 if you had a 30g sump. So really that means just a couple more trips with a 5g bucket then a 30g with a 20g sump. That's just the way I break it down anyhow. Good luck and happy reefing!

a 120 for a first tank not to big i started with a 90 gallon my self.

$150 isnt that great of a deal.... I just sold one for $75.... and pd $200 for a rr180g with built stand.....

with any tank over 75g, you have to worry about age... larger tanks have allot of pressure on the seams when full of moving water, so I always recommend re-sealing them. also I assume this is a 4' tank? so you should be fine but when moving 5'-6'+ tanks there is allot of twisting that can cause old seams to split or weaken.....
