Hey all,

There's a guy in the local fish group who is selling an AI prime for 120$ with a diffuser, but it is used (he said 1.5 years). Is that a reasonable deal or am I about to spend money foolishly?

Thanks!

Depends on his lighting schedule. If he ran the fixture at 40% for that time it’s practically just broken in with very little strain on the diodes. If the light received salt spray constantly, etc. But if it seems well taken care of go for it.

Good deal if it comes with a mount. Check the uv v area on the lens for melted areas. If they are melted you can get another for $5.
I run 7 on 2 different systems and own 12. Only 2 were purchased new. I have replaced several lens but so far no other issues.

Sorry to jump this thread. What diode causes the lens melt? Its my first what I consider higher end light for my WB. I've set all the blue to 100% UV at 60% white at 40% and red at 5% all set on acclimation mode right now just to give the corals time to adjust from coming off the fluval light bar. Also I don't think I'll ever overdrive any channels. I don't want this to happen lol

The uv and v diode are the ones that can melt the lens. They are the only ones I have issues with.
I was running them at 140% so yea overdriven. I run them at 100% now and so far no issues.
Also any water that may splash on the lens will cause it to severly melt as the lens runs very hot.

I set a 16 on my pant leg when I first got it to test it. DO NOT DO THIS. I turned it on and within 2 seconds it burnt the 16's led pattern in my pants so yea very hot. I dont run diffusers but should.
A local set ome on his wood coutertop and walked away while it was on. It burned the pucks pattern into the wood and was close to starting a fire with lots of smoke.
I do run them on my radions to protect the lens. The amount of salt spray on them makes me feel better that they are protected.

It does come with the mount. I have one that I bought new and then a vivaspectre on the other side. I'd like to get rid of that vivaspectre and turn it into a back up light. It's a good light, but the mounting on it is as ugly as sin. In vivaspectre's defense, I made the mounting and did a bad job.

Sounds like a plan. The 16hds are the led that got me to convert all my systems to leds. My old 20 g from day, then at 10 months when I took it down.
Cant go wrong with the hds, imo.
