should I buy water from petco if I don’t have the option of using an RODI system? Is that water that they sell at petco the same as RODI water or is it not as good? I need to buy a pressure pump because my water pressure is too low for the RODI system anyway but I wanted to know if the petco water is the same as RODI water.

What water does Petco offer? When I was starting out I used RODI from the local fish store

Is there a particular reason you can't do RODI yourself? Buying it you end up putting a lot of faith in a generslly understaffed store to keep up to date on there filter changes and maintaining there equipment properly to get 0 TDS pure water.

Well I do have an RODI system but I need to buy a pressure pump and a water saver to make more water more efficiently. I have a well at my place and I was worried about using too much water at one time.

I just really wanted to get my tank started so that’s why I was thinking about buying water from a store to start it up, but of course I don’t wanna have bad water and then add RODI water because it will never be pure RODI water, you know what I mean?

No, it is not the same as RODI water and a salt mix. The water you linked to is filtered ocean water. It may work just fine for you depending on your tank :)

What size tank? And do you know what PSI your are getting from your well right now?

And I know exactly what you mean, your LFS should have RODI water for sale, most do. I would trust them over Petco any day.

I've used that in a pinch when I moved my tank and needed a few extra gallons to top it off. $12.99 is a lot for 5 gallons of saltwater.

If you really can't get an rodi system check a LFS that specializes in saltwater. They typically sell rodi and saltwater. When I was buying it rodi was $.50/gallon and saltwater was $1.25/gallon.

In the end an rodi saves you a ton of money on water as well as gas and chiropractor visits from hauling the water lol

Don't do that. I'm sure that water is fine, but you will save so much money in the long run buying an RO/DI system that it would be crazy. Get a system with a booster pump and it doesn't matter too much what your water presure is:

I have a 30 gallon tank. Haha yeah I’m impatient right now. I am only getting 30 psi, so I might have to buy a booster pump and a water saver extension for my 75 gpd RODI system. That might make a lot more water more quickly but it will be really expensive. I don’t wanna have to run my well all day to make water too, I’m worried about that. And okay I will have to check my lfs for RODI water for the start of my tank I guess.

Yes 30 PSI is certainly low for a single membrane and I'd say a hard no to the dual membrane setup at your current PSI. Another thing to note with a well. If you plumb your wastewater outside or if your on a septic, you can water your grass with it and it will eventually make it's way back to your well. So you might be "Wasting" it in the immediate sense but you'll recover it eventually. Do you happen to know what kind of TDS level you are working with out of your well? Also have you tested it atall for CO2 levels?

Why will it be expensive? I need a pressure pump on my city water and see no increase in my bill. I make 30 gallons a week for my top off.

I doubt your making water will drain your well. Aquarium RO|/DI units do not use water that fast. A 10 min shower will use 20 gallons of water. Thats 20 gallons in 10 min. Rough friday night example: 75 GPD unit with a 4/1 ratio takes about 120 gallons to produce 40 gallons of water. Thats in 12 hours. 120g/12hr =10 gallons an hour. You will need to get a pressure pump. The main prob besides pressure is well water can be high in C02. This will use up your DI resin at a very fast rate. 30 gallons is not very much water. If you do 10% water changes per week, that 3 gallons. Then you will need to top off the tank to make up for evaporation. Maybe another gallon or 2 per week.

Yes you can use Petco water

For a 30g I wouldn't worry about running the well all day. I have the 150gpd rodi and it makes 5 gallons in 1 hour at 60psi in the winter and 6gph in the summer months. So to fill your tank you would run for 5-6 hours then after that maybe an hour a week for water changes and top off

I think the op means the equipment cost... I'd say to that welcome to the hobby lol

I used it for my first tank for awhile till I got the hang of things and it was fine. You can buy gallons of distilled water at walmart or a grocery store and a box salt for much cheaper per gallon if you don't have RODI. I consider that a better option than LFS RODI which may not change their filters often enough.

My only thoughts would be start with that, but get that booster pump. It will pay for itself in the long run. Especially if you have the ro unit now. Like mentioned the rejection rate and size of your tank should not impact your water reservoir.

Definitely check tds as mentioned to make sure the ro you have can handle the tds

Oops, sorry hi
