(Okay, so maybe that's a little dramatic)

Are acans making a comeback?! What do you guys think?

It seems like some pretty awesome new acans have been showing up lately!

I think everyone just went a new direction for a while ya know kinda like acros there use to be hot hot hot acros all over the place then they fell off and now they are back with a vengeance too, so yeah I think they're are coming back, wait are we bringing them back with our grow out? Lol

We do have a little bit of everything! Hopefully we can keep it going too!

I dunno if it's just our awesome sponsors on here but I've seen some pretty amazing and unique pieces the past couples months.

following a species of coral as a fad is utterly dumb.
i only get what i like

Any way you slice it, it seems like anything Australian has come into a fad. I personally don't mind because collection practices are so much better that you don't see the kind of attrition like from Bali or Fiji.

Chalices, Acans, and unfortunately Scolys have become the centerpieces in my tank. Thus causing me to overfeed trying to get them to grow, making my acro look angrier each week.

IMHO chalice's are overrated & way over price. Acans rules.

+1^^ I remember when I saw my first Acan it was red with a little grey to it a 100 a head lol I still have some from over 7 years ago!

I am kinda gun shy about buying any of the fancy acans. I have purchased 2 rainbow acans so far and both are now just red. Been trying for months now to get them colored back up.

Throw them in low light. I had the same problem until I threw mine under a ledge. That plus feedings made mine color up within a month

I dnt feed mine much. Maybe once every two week or once every other month. I have sps so I try to keep my water clear.

these posts are stupid. Buy what you like, who cares what the current fad is....

Lol I thought you were talkin about yourself in general I don't see chalices going anywhere anytime soon all of these corals mostly the big heavy hitters" acros, zoas, chalices, acans " have always gotten love from hobbyist like a few of you stated these are phases just like anything else

I know my old rainbows that had lost it now have it back now that I moved them from shaded halide to very low par t5's

There are always trends. I wouldn't discount any species in the hobby. Chalices won't disappear because truly nice ones are not readily available, and there is a lot of appreciation for cultured ones and the color combinations.

I feel we might start seeing some really nice bowerbankis on the next year or two.

Wow. There are some pretty strong responses for such an easy question.

Of course chalices aren't 'going away', I think the op was trying to get some conversation about trends and maybe indirectly pricing. There are always trends and to say there is not is just as silly.

Whatever the case I hope the $500+ an eye thing simmers down. I just cant justify it (or afford it). It blows my mind that there is even a market for that. And if it doesn't, I don't mind lookin at pretty pictures. ;). Plus I have no idea how to aquascape w those things. I only see em on frag plugs. ;)

If its hot it will be "in" if there was a species of rainbow star polyps located everyone would want them!

Wow, some of you really need to chill out.

Didn't mean to start a discussion on "fads", more a discussion around the awesome acans that have been showing up lately. Definitely got a lot of people looking with the title. Mission accomplished.

Now you're talking! Personally i feel a lot of the acans look really similar. Not saying i dont love them or have a bunch, just feel like Ill hit a wall soon. Im holding out for the blastos and especially micros to come back.
