good choice.

How much do you budget to get a new light fixture with?

89"L x 20"w x 18"D

18" 18" 18" 18" (heatsinks)

4x 36 LED kits

24x blues to 12x whites
4x DIA.20-Cree 70 Degree (+$30.00)
4x 3 LPC 35-700 (+$60.00)
4x 18″x8.46″ from HeatsinkUSA (+$40.50)

It would be comparable to 250wMHalides and then some. But cost is over your budget at $1,381.80 +shipping but you will get what you are looking for in performance. to buy something premade can increase your cost 30-50percent;

ya know the evolutions are priced right and people are giving them rave reviews it might not be a bad choice to grab 4 or 5 imho..... if your up for a little diy it's the only way to go to get everything you really want and have full control....
maybe $1000-1100.00

Troy, u caught my attention... tell me about this combination your talking about???? Always on a budget you know!!!

XRE-Q4-WE whtie--10000k, XRE-D3 blue(450-465nm), XRE-B3 Blue(465-470nm).

Can someone tell me what this means? Would this be considered good Led's for aquarium?

I'd walk away from this fixture. The company knows nothing about spectrum and its LEDs.

For example the to say the Cree XR-E cool White is 10K is false advertising. The Bin WA and WX do approach 10K but these are not so common and the Cool White mostly produced is closer to 7-8K

http://www.cree.com/products/pdf/xlamp7090xr-e_b&l.pdf

Also the specific Bin of the Royal Blue really matters when it comes to coral colour. D3 & B3 450-470nm does not say much. If you hold up two different Royal Blue to your coral you will see the colour difference.

Also the Cree XR-E is rated up to 1000mA not 700mA to drive them at 350mA, is an engineering compromise due to poor thermal management and an advertising gimmick that allows them to say 3watt LEDs

These lights may be fine for growing "tomatoes" in your basement but for a similar inexpensive fixture more suited for the reef aquarium the Evolution or a DIY Kit will give you much better results.

If I went with the Evolution what fixture/model would I need? and how many for 89"L 18"D SPS tank?
I can't do DIY.

Total of 4-5 but 6 would be much better for sps. Matters which models u go with also.

I wouldnt bother with XR-E's, the XM-L's are the way to go for white and the XP-E's are the ones to use for r,g,b & rb. Considering the efficiency hit from using XR-E's, you might be better off with one of those 50w LED's, either the Edistar OEM unit (aka Ecoxotic) or a DIY version for much less: 50W Led : Led Strips Hero-ledstore.com

Our strips have a pre wired option. You can also choose to epoxy them to the heatsink.

The Evoloution is the only 1 watt LED we recommend you will need 3-4 for softies and LPS.

I have decided to go the DIY route - that way I know what quality I am getting - I just can't afford to buy 5 Chinese fixture's and not have them live up to what they claim.
I want to thank everyone that responded to my questions - I really appreciated it!

Sweet!!! I hope it all works out great for ya...make sure to document in a build thread. I always love seeing people putting these together!!

just out of curiosity you guys say the evolution led lights are good but they sure do look like the china lights to me what makes the evolution light better ?

Evolutions are made in China but they use a different led that have need tested and true to work. There are other that look the same hut use cheaper leds that are garbage

Im sure youve already made up your mind, and Im superised no-one else has said this, but those arent 3W LEDs on that panel. They are 119 X 1W. They are arranged in 7 rows with 17 columns 7X17=119. Thats why they are claiming 120W. If thet were true 3W the panel would be 357W.
All those email are pretty much lying to your face.

Unless of course I looked at the wrong fixture. All the pics of the aquarium lights are the same.

No where does it say they are 3 Watt they are high powered 1 Watt led therebnot lying at all. They do say 119 - 1 Watt leds they rounded to 120 I'm sure people know its 119 because there are 119 leds.

Evolutions are the same they say 119 - 1 Watt leds they have others that are 200 Watt but they have 200 leds

FWIW, just because an LED is a 3w diode, doesn't necessarily mean that they're driven at 3w a piece. I have three of the 150w LED fixtures from ReefFiltration. They use 119 3w diodes, but only drive them at 1.26w to extend life.

Ok yes but which are u speaking of? Because the company speaking of this thread use 1watt leds according to there email. Not 3 Watt ran lower wattage. Also evolution use 1 Watt led not 3 Watt. I run my 3 Watt Cree a little over 2 Watts so yes I knew that. Bit according to the email they run all 1 Watt leds not 3 Watt.
