Hello,
I've been burning through DI far to quickly and I've finally decided to do something about it. I'm on well water and assumed I had high CO2 content. I picked up a CO2 test kit from spectrapure and confirmed my suspicions with 19 ppm CO2.
I've come up with the following design and looking for any feedback. My one question, apart from any issues you see with the design, is what size pipe to use?
Notes:
- RODI unit is a BRS 150 gpd, 1/4" line, booster pump and auto-shutoff
- RODI has a 26' run to my fish room and 60G Storage barrel.
- 3 to 5 tds going into DI stage
- pipes will be approx 5' tall
- 3.5' drop into the DI
- float sensors control solenoid on/off to control flow
- float valves are backup/safety feature
I went with this design for a few reasons over the single tube version I see on spectrapure web site. First, I don't like the idea of the RO dripping into the top of the single tube. Seems like the water would just exit quickly. I could run the input line at the bottom of the tube, but I am concerned there would to much back pressure from the 5' column of water that would either slow or stop the flow from the RO. Lastly, this doubles the tube length and allows for greater contact time.
I'm hoping the 3.5' drop into the DI will be enough pressure for the water to make it through the dual DI at a high enough rate to keep up with the RO unit. If not, I'm prepared to add a staging container with a small pump in between the tower and the DI.
Let me know what you think and most importantly, what diameter pipe. I'd like to go 1" because of where it's located to minimize space, but can go up to 2" if need be.
@AZDesertRat - I would of course love your input if you see this and have the time.
Thanks!
