I'm looking to purchase a deep blue 30 gallon shallow (24x24x12) non drilled tank here shortly and turn it into a AIO tank similar to the IM lagoon 25. I'd also like to put in a C2C overflow but have been trying to figure out the best way to do this and still channel the water only into the skimmer chamber and not the return section. So far my plan is the build the back wall as I normally would.. The skimmer chamber will be a bit deeper than the return to allow for a larger(better) skimmer than a nano sized skimmer. The skimmer section will have a depth of 5"and be 8" long and the return section will have a depth of 4". The skimmer chamber walls will be shorter to allow for water to flow into this section only... I will then simply build a small 1"x 1" weir along the return section at the same height as the skimmer section and this will allow the water to channel to the skimmer section where it will fall into the skimmer chamber from the side. Is there and easier way? The only issue I see is too much water coming from the smaller channel that it will begin to be more of a waterfall than nice smooth flow down the chambers inner wall.

Look up the old DAS internal box overflow system. Same concept, works nicely, but you can't clean between the outer and inner walls. I'll try to draw something out so it makes sense, but there are two "walls" inner and outer, outer has the teeth, inner directs the water down to the bottom corner of the wall which has a small opening into the skimmer chamber and then through the compartments before returning to the tank. Check the link below, hopefully makes sense when you look at it.
