CA Precipitation on UV quartz sleeve

Does anybody else get a lot of calcium buildup on their UV sterilizer quartz sleeve? Is there any way to eliminate that?

its a symptom of overdosing ca and alk. if that is happening your sand bed is also likely solidifying. the precipitate coats the quartz sleeve of UVs and pump parts. suggest lowering dosing amounts, or switching to a calcium reactor

I get precipitation on the quartz sleeves in my UV all the time. It may well happen more quickly at elevated mineral levels, but has nothing to do with overdosing and will occur at recommended levels as well. I'm not sure of the exact chemical reaction, but perhaps some kind of interaction between the mineral ions and the UV. Randy HF would probably know. That's why it's important to regularly inspect and clean the sleeve. The precipitate comes off quite easily, especially if you use a dilute vinegar solution.

I'm spreading out my dosing schedule to divide 95ml into 9 different time slots during a 24 hour day. Most dosing periods will be 10 minutes long, with just a couple 15 minutes long.

when i ran dosing i always had a problem with precipitation and sand bed solidification. now that i use a calcium reactor (and before when i used to) i never had issues.

it alone is enough to make me dislike dosing.

Mine gets coated. I use kalkwasser. I guess that’s why some of them have wipers...
