I know I've posted a lot in this forum lately, but another one for everyone. Any opinions or experience with CAD Light Aquariums? I'm looking at one of their systems, but don't know too much about their products. All advice appreciated.

I have read on NR SoCaliR that this supplier in So Cal is not so prompt with customer service and that the tanks assembled here could benefit from some quality control. I have heard that the silicone seams can be uneven so it is important to check out the tank (if you were here or at your LFS) before you purchase it. I have also heard buyers being told that their tanks were ready, and when they arrived to pick them up, this was not true. I have heard that buyers have experienced missing parts but also got replacements easily.

I bought what I now believe was a knock off. This existence of such may make tracking such issues problematic but I believe all of the above to be true of actual owners. The buyers of the knock offs were happy to have purchased similar tanks at huge discounts.

So I described what I was unhappy about my knock off. Ikea like cam-joints, HDF (better quality MDF), feet that are no more than plastic cups turned upside down, plumbing that needed to be reworked to fit into the system, and a sump of poor design. As I described these issues to two different Cadlight owners they told me that this is how the Cadlights are!

But search for yourself, I really should not be bad mouthing this company. If you pay attention, people usually write to complain not to praise. I have no idea how this compares to the amount of work they do very well with. But I will say, I remember more than a few people recommending another brand over this one.

For me, the tank is like a car, I car most about how it looks. Then you can add your high performance parts like skimmer, lights, and pumps.

CAD does have their issues. However; I have the 39g pro and no problems getting mine all the way to CT and never had any problems. I also LOVE the products they produce including my tank. Much nicer than going with any kind of standard AGA tank or the like. The 100g is my dream tank lol

Any new thoughts on CAD?

I had looked over their display this past weekend and the prices for tank/stand and delivery were more than reasonable compared to other vendors. Last post is 2012, any uptick on thoughts of quality for this maker?

I have a cadlights artisan 2 70 gallon. I purchased this after I canceled a reef savy build. I didn't need custom dimensions anymore and the wait time was much less. Ordered through marine depot so I can have them battle for any problems I might encounter. Customer service was fine with depot and cad. Minor shipping delay due to strike at long beach port. Silicone work is fine. No flaws on mine. Plumbing is metric, which bothers some people. Not really a big deal imo. Stand is nice, finished well, and made of all solid wood. It's very heavy. I didn't use the sump as it takes up the entire stand and I wanted room for an Ato and dosing. The skimmer is middle of the road but gets the job done. All and all I think it's a nice tank for the price and I am happy with it. No regrets. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

I do like the Reef Savvy and would but my budget is finishing the basement + fish tank. Custom tank/custom stand is around $6k and then all of the other things. I did get a quote from Savvy and it was around 3k which did not seem outrageous, nonetheless expensive. The tank plus stand delivered was around $2k. I know this is the difference between custom and off the shelf but it is somewhat compelling to do some research.

Planet aquarium looks like.

I bought a 70G Artisan II. While their customer service is not the best in town, the workmanship on the tank and stand are outstanding. No MDF, solid furniture grade materials. Having a "Trunkey" system is nice. I priced similar systems with all of the included items and it was a lot more $$. If I have to do it over again, I would. Just my .02$ worth.

I got a custom tank with CAD Lights and dealt with Eddie directly. It was before they came out with there 100G Artisan setup 48x24x20 and I believe followed suit after my plans for my tank *This was 4+ years back*. Mine was a 48x24x22 110G rimless with a custom stand from them as well. I had my overflow on the right corner and 3 return holes up top. The Silicone job was not the greatest *Micro-Bubbles* on the seam and the lines were not straight. I mentioned to make sure that the stand had a hole on the right side for my overflow and when I got it. I got it with 1 on the left and 1 on the right. This tells me that this was not a custom stand or was a mistake and known and was still sent to me. I got charged $699 for the stand before delivery and I expected it to be quality and custom which was not due to the fact another hole was cut where it was not suppose to be. Eddie said it was in case I decided to have an overflow on the left side!?! Great excuse *Rolling Eyes*. The Hinges and Built Quality is as stated "IKEA" the doors won't even line up anymore when shut. When getting a hold of Eddie for ordering the response was great. As for issues and problems, good luck.

I have a Cadlight 50g cube and I would definitely recommend them to my friends. I have noticed a huge difference between reviews of late and of the past say 2012 or early.
They even upgraded the stand since I bought it.
Also please don't expect Miracle glass or reefsavvy quality as you're not paying for that.
