I am new to reef2reef but my daughter and I have decided to try out this contest. The tank will be in her room and we are not sure what we are going to do with it. The tank is the Cad lights 18 gallon concept edition starfire glass tank. We plan on putting in purigen and some algae for filtration. The idea will be to keep it as simple as possible.

Welcome to the contest and especially welcome to R2R! Great to have you here!

Welcome to R2R. You could do some mushrooms, zoathids, maybe some soft corals that like a little dirty water so maintance is a little easier. Plus they are pretty hardy too.

Hello and welcome to r2r :welcome: Sounds like a fun project for you and your daughter good luck with the competition

welcome to r2r and goodluck in the contest. would love to see some pics of what you come up with

Awesome! Welcome to R2R!! Can't wait to see what you and your daughter put together!!

We are thinking about an island in the middle with sps at the top and some lps at the bottom. I will post pics to night when I get home. Thanks for all the welcomes. I have followed many great builds on this site an we are looking forward to the contest.

Here is the tank in the room and with the blue LED's on. This is the first time I have posted pics so i hope they show up.

Wow I really like that tank!

No kidding; I hope she enjoys her awesome tank, come to think of it that tanks better looking than mine ... awww

:tsk:

Welcome to R2R; following....

Thanks, I am looking for ideas for the rock that will go into it. Maybe a rock stack that comes all the way out of the water in the middle? I picked up a fiber glass rod, a concrete bit, and an impact drill so I am sort of committed to drilling something.

I must say that I realy like the look of your tank. I like it a lot better than my nano that I am building for the contest. I like the look of rock going very high up in the tank, that is how my main reef tank does.

Thanks fish guy. I struggle with a 29 gallon tank with sps and only a hob filter, I would not even try to keep sps in a 5. Do you have an idea which sps you are going with.

Man that tank is sweet and it doesn't have anything in it yet. Can't wait to see it come to life. Great pick for your daughter.

Do you think this I can get away with calling this minimalist or is the tank just empty?

Yeah, I'm a little nervous about putting SPS in this tank, my main method for keeping the water healthy will be staying on top of my water changes. I am wanting to put montipora caps and digis. I will have several zoas and maybe some acros. I am also considering some LPS such as an acan that I have.

I hope your tank turns out well.

That's a cool little tank. I think you will need a little more rock. But I like minimal look.
