Cad lights 18 gallon rimless build

More rock? I though Minimalist was all the rage. OK so i pulled some rock from my 29 gallon tank and put the kids to work, this is what they came up with.

A couple of reefers in the making ;) From what I can see it looks good I am thinking a nice balance of rock and open space.

Yea my 1 year went strait for the super glue, I wonder where she learned that?

Here is the tank with no blue lights on

The tank came with ceramic beads , does anyone use those in reef tanks or should I toss them?

Also do you add filter media while the tank is cycling? Sponge or Purigen or filter sock?

i had this tank for acouple months. did not like the back chambers one bit so went with a overflow and sump. the sides leak water in and it does not go through the filteration at all

Bobssecrtsn, Thanks for the heads up, but I think they may have changed the design because I do not see any water coming in from the sides. I do think that I may need a more powerful pump to push more water through the cambers.

Here is the completed aquascape.
We went the CaribSea for the substrate, we were able to use about 75% of it after we took out most of the shells and live rock.

Looks good, looking forward to seeing how it looks once you are able to start getting corals in it.

Starting to get some diatoms and some red slime showing up. No idea how they dump in fish with no cycle on those TV shows.

Smokey and Barb, thanks. This tank has made the process pretty simple and my little helpers keep it interesting.

My daughter picked her first 3 corals that will go into this tank.

Maybe I should have used more live rock and recycled water?

I don't think the Zoas my daughter picked out are going into tank anytime soon.

We haved added a tail spot Blenny who has not eaten in 3 weeks but is as fat as could be. We have tried to feed it flake food, pellets, brine, mysis, cylopeeze. I have stopped trying because it was just getting the tank dirty. Also we added a leather from the other tank that seems to be doing good.

For the blenny, you may want to try a frozen marine algae preparation such as Hikari Mega Marine Algae. You can also soak a piece of nori in selcon and rubberband it to a rock for the blenny to graze on.

Thanks my daughter says it looks like a skull. We added 2 ORA kudu seahorses and a really nice Gorgonian. I have coral frenzy and roti feast do I need to feed the Gorgonian anything else?
