@danieyella - There's a company the builds acrylic tanks and custom sumps out of Clermont. I have not used them but have had chats with him and seen his work. It's solid.

I'm so on the fence about acrylic vs glass. I'd love everyone's feedback about why they think one is better than the other

Properly done acrylic, lasts forever. IMO, it is easy to remove scratches while tank is running. Clarity is awesome if care is taken when cleaning, it is lighter. It is also more expensive.

Glass is nice, as a little more forgiving. It is also cheaper. More care has to be taken at the seams, so you do not damage them (corner guards almost eliminate this and are worth it IMO). Glass is also hard to remove scratches. Once there (unless super shallow) they are there. Even if not a deep scratch, takes a ton of time to polish them out. Glass will be heavier.

All in all, they both have pros and cons.

Acrylic for me. Glass is ok for anything under 300 but not preferred. 300 and over acrylic.

As for the Clermont reference, I was more referring to a sump for your build. Owners name is Mario.

Glass... im lazy a razor blade to clean it and im done... never got that type of clean on my acrylic with those magnet things

I used the cleaners from Mighty Magnets. They worked great and knowing was going to get scratches, they are compatible with the tank polishing kit. (about same price as me going and buying the same grit of sandpaper). They are very pricey though and I think my cleaner kit was about 299. But that was for 1.5" thick acrylic lol.

Probably do shorter on the height though, Matt will want to make it all bar height instead of cades counter height standard. Looking at lengthening it though and cutting into the back cabinet idea. Which poses a new problem - lighting.

64x30x 24 w sump close to 240 gal...

Lighting is easy.

So 80/20 or similar and you just have it come from cabinet side out to open end side. You can then dress it up, or leave it for a mechanical look.

Heck, we could even figure out a "floating" fixture, drop downs from ceiling, etc.

Yeah we planned on some kind of floating canopy idea I think. I just know my reefbreeders fixture will not translate, even if we stuck w/ like 60-64 inches.

Planning on sticking with mixed reef theme. Thought about t5 instead of led? Definitely need to sort out fixtures, how many bulbs, what kind, etc if I go that route. How much heat would that potentially add? I know nothing like MH would.... Or would hybrid be better? Not really sure. I'm no lighting pro.

I have a 60 aquaticlife t5 hybrid fixture in storage you could use that and a couple kessils in...
