Cade Chaos Grimoire

plant question.... do you buy premade aroid planting soil, or do you mix your own? Definitely need to repot the big monstera I just got, that soil crap they have it in is looks like straight coco coir, definitely not the well-draining chunky mix I'm reading about.

I mix my own.

Sorry just remembered to post this for you, meant to do it as soon as I got home.

Basic mix:
Two parts Canadian spagnum peat moss and coco coir
Two parts perlite or pumice
Two parts compost or castings
Two parts chunky coir
One part bark
One part biochar
One part rock dust
One part kelp/ alfalfa
One cup neem/ karanja

Anthurium mix: two parts basic mix, one part chunky coir and one part orchid bark.

Succulent/cacti mix: four parts basic mix, one part pumice/lava rock

Most of my plants, including monstera, are in the basic mix

Thats a great recipe. I did order a small bag of the chunky mix from the grower I bought the mini monstera and the philodendron, and it did have the biochar in it, and I was stumped on what it was or where to find it. (i knew it was charcoal of some sort but type I had no clue.)

Definitely a rich mix, no wonder your plants love you!

question on the rock dust, is it Azomite?

Let me try to track down order history and see exactly what kind it is. I actually stayed with family last night instead of going home because I have a work meeting today that's closer to where they live.

Edited: "volcanic Rock dust"

Since you posted analysis, I checked what I had in the cart and although should be the same, what you listed was better. I Google searched the image you posted and found this one.

Pretty excited to get all this together and re-pot the pretties.

So it looks like I'm not going to be able to use tropic eden in this tank, or at least - not the mixture I prefer. Usually I do a mix of meso and reef which is a size range of 2.7mm to 3.5mm -- I guess I need to search out the other brands to compare sizing. TE has always felt cleaner to me though :(

I can find mini and pink which are 0.8-2 range, much finer than I usually prefer. I don't like as much blowing around normally and I think I'll regret it if I land myself in that mess just to stick with my preferred brand.

Rock order placed...
Moving some from the cube.

Keeping an eye out for locals to dump extra as well if I feel I need more.

Time to start putting the water into the tank...

Im going to do a treasure chest order from TBS for variety when I'm ready. The shenanigans with my tiny airport last time were a hassle.

Yeah I did it as pickup since I'm local
