It's a small space and a pain to remove the cup regularly. I have to ease it carefully across the top of the sump and carefully past the return tube to pull it out from the open side.

Today is supposed to be calibrating our leadership teams... But knowing this company we'll start with a recap of what we went over yesterday
Not sure how handy you are, but you could always trim the skimmer cup down. I have done that quite a few times. Even a 1/4-1/2” makes a huge difference. I used a belt sander for the outer “ring” and a small orbital sander for the inner ring. You have to go slow and let the acrylic cool from time to time.
