Do you use a Klir that replaces filter socks. Thinking trying one but so much bad. I get it’s a drop in so won’t be perfect in ever situations.
Doooo ittttttt
Yes! It was a game changer! I run 1 klir & a cap on the other sock hole. I read a lot of mixed reviews and was on the fence about it initially, also a lot of people saying they had to modify their cade sump for it to work.
It fit perfectly and I didn't have to mod anything. I've had a few hiccups here and there - sponge growing on the plate that breaks the seal and has to be scraped up, baby trocus snails getting in the roller and tearing it up, etc etc. None of which are the brands fault, just a risk you run working with living creatures and a reminder to do regular maintenance.
Way better for me though, as I was especially bad about changing socks in a timely manner.
Thank you for taking the time. I understand the issues with snails and stuff. I normally don’t read reviews because most people are the problem or don’t understand. I will not use filter socks. No way no how not happening.
Think I will give it a try.
Great. Not in a Hurry so can search around and take my time. You have 4” or 7”?
Do you have to remove it to change the roll. Probably not a bad thing as it’s a good time to clean it
I've got the 4" Klir and love it as well. I build the sump from a 40 breeder and bought the sump inserts so it had to be modified to install. I added a gasket under the unit to make it seal better but it works great. I also had to modify the klir and add a few small pieces of acrylic to the sensor area so I could lower the sensor a bit but all was pretty easy. I've had it running for over a year now and maybe replaced roll 4 times. Never had socks and since these rollers work so good, never will! One thing to note, I think they strip so well if you run a skimmer as well you will probably not need as large of a skimmer. Between the two it pulls a lot and the tank runs at low nutrients.
