Cadlights Pls-50 Skimmer

I just picked up two of these skimmers for $99 each brand new, they are incredible. Why are they not talked about as much for nano skimmers, the build quality is top notch!

Had a couple PLS-50s and PLS-100s. They are great once they are dialed in but can be very finicky about water level. They are stupid small for what they do though.

Customer service wise they were great! I ordered online last night. I called today since I was in the area of their office and they let me pick them up.

I’ve had one of these for a few years now. IMO it’s the best nano skimmer on the market. They did have several customer service issues dating back to when Cadlights went out of business and got bought or absorbed by Mode Aquariums. That might be part of why they are not as popular as some other brands. I ended up getting mine for free because it arrived damaged and Cadlights would not respond to me or PayPal to get it replaced. PayPal finally gave me a full refund and I was able to repair the broken air intake on the volute and make it work. Funny enough I just broke that same part trying to clean the pump which had stopped working. I guess I have to reach out to Mode and see if they’ll just sell me a new pump. I won’t need this skimmer in my new bigger tank but I’d like to have it working for future projects.

The 100s are easy to convert to DC pumps. Should be pretty much the same for 50s just need to figure out what the flow rate is. If any one needs it the stock100 pumps are 375gph advertised and meter out at ~320gph.

Cadlights sold the replacement pump for about $45 on their website but my experience with them at the time was so bad that I couldn’t give them any more money. I didn’t trust them to actually send the pump. Mode doesn’t list the pump separately so I’ll have to call them. I don’t want to screw around with trying to get something different unless I know for sure it will fit.

Mode was pretty awesome to deal with today, they called me back pretty quickly. Seems like they have turned around their customer service from the past.
