Hello fellow reefers,

My calcium and alkalinity has not been dropping much for the last month or so. Anyone know what could be the cause ? I am currently using red sea test kit. I am about 10 sps frags in my tank for about 1.5 month now. All help would be appreciated. Oh in addition, i do a 30% water change every 2 weeks. The salts that I am using is Instant Ocean regular salt mix, not the crystals.

Thanks in advance.

Alk - 9.8
Calcium - 430
Magnesium - 1350

First thought is that your water changes are enough to maintain your levels. Did you previously see regular declines in both?

Nooo this tank is still pretty new, so i was testing alk/calc/mag level and then dosed to the desire level. Ever since, the levels have not changed much. Can biopellets play a part in this ?

Sounds like your needs are still low, esp if your tank is new and not very stocked.
+1
also look at the label of the salt mix and see what amount of ca,alk are in it, with doing large water changes and if your salt is at 430ca and 1350 alk then the ca and alk will not drop. And as @icecool2 stated your tank is relatively new and thing will jump around for a bit. My tank is over a year old and I had swings up until the tank was 11 month old. then I started using a balling method of dosing and things have calm down. I am testing today to check were I am at. Last test was two weeks ago.
