most saltwater people do not dose ammonia to cycle the tank as in Freshwater. Same calculations should apply to either.

FWIW for both marine and fresh if you have thriving plant life (freshwater-live plants, saltwater-macro and other algae) you should have no ammonia spikes as the tank cycles. The plant life will consume the ammonia directly preventing dangerous spikes. The aerobic bacteria will still build up and start consuming the ammonia so the plants will "switch" to consuming nitrates at that point. (IME usually takes 3-4 weeks)
