So I almost never check my calcium (just Alk, PO4 & NO3). Today I did & it was 527 (hanna). Is that too high with these other parameters?
ALK - 7.9
PO4 - .03
NO3 - 2
Salinity - 1.026 - Tropic Marin Pro Reef
Mag - 1400

I run a CaRx with Reborn large media (no added Mag).

Did you use the Hanna water for your test?
If I use 0 TDS RODI water from my BRS 7 stage pro system I get a 60 ppm high reading compaired to using the Hanna water. When using Hanna’s water the checker is within 1 ppm of my Salifert test.

Yes, I used the Hanna water. I only test Cal about once every 3-4 months. I'm usually around 420 - 450

I would retest just to rule out a testing error. We’ve all done it at least once. I personally make it a point anytime something changes to re Check 2-3 times just to rule out my old Shakey hands lol

Think it might be either the expired hanna deionized water or something else... measured again came in at 580. Grabbed my red sea and it came in at 440.

I’m glad it is just testing error. Personally I feel I wasted $49 on the checker and $10 on the Hanna water as I have little to no faith in it.

Accurate or not (the Hanna calcium kit is freakishly sensitive to calcium contamination in the blank), 527 ppm calcium is not a problem. :)

Resurrect this post, I just started using the Hanna Calcium checker and it’s way off compare to sulf test kit.

Current water parameter
Calcium 470 ppm
Calcium 516ppm using Hanna Checker
Alk 8.12ppm

Two part dosing ESV Bionic
Thanks everyone I thought my calcium was too high. It if normal to dose more Alk than Calcium? I find my tank use up more Alk than Calclium.

There was a blog post not too long ago from Hanna, saying to clean the cuvettes with RO/DI water. I use my own RO/DI with it and get good results all the time. I have dual DI's after the membranes.

Yeah I use RO water to clean the vile and for testing, I have a BRS 5 stage kit

Or just realize that you’re going to be some percentage high. Do some correlation between the two and you can feel comfortable using the Hanna. Personally I have just gone back to Red Sea test because it’s just a little less screwing around over the Hanna with using rodi and powder and waiting the time.

Lol funny you said that I was using the test kits for years, just last month I started using Hanna, am gonna buy a refill kit for Red Sea Calcium

Hello everyone,

update, I purchased Distilled Water from CVS, used it for the Hanna Checker Calcium test instead of RO water. The tests came back with accurate reading as to what I get from Salifert Calcium Test Kit.
