Test daily for a week, and write down your results. Then you can use a reef calculator to determine how much you need to add daily to maintain steady levels.
First: Test ur alk and cal
Second: dose ur tank.
Third: write ur findings. Charts will help out a lot!
The next day repeat. Try to do this at the same time each day.
If u dosed 10mls of each and ur alk and cal the next day aren't at the same then 10mls not enough. So from here u can check ur levels and u can either dose the same amount or up it and check ur levels again tomorrow and see they are lower same or higher.
Example:
Monday: 8dkh cal 440 dose 10mls alk 10mls cal
Tuesday: 7.5dkh cal 420 dose 10mls alk 10mls cal
Wednesday: 7dkh cal 400...
This is just number thrown out there. But with this reading and at this point u can't start upping ur dose.
Wednesday: dose 15mls alk 15mls cal
Thursday: 6.7dkh cal 390 dose 20mls alk 20mls cal
Friday: 6.7dkh cal 390. Dose 20mls alk 20mls cal
Saturday: 6.7 dkh cal 390.
So now u know that it's no longer dropping u have found ur dosing amount. So 20mls is ur daily base. U will need to dose more to get it and the levels u want like back to 8dkh or what ever u please....
After a while u will need to adjust ur levels, as the coral grows it will use more alk and cal.
using the diy two parts system you first adjust calcium alk and mag
Then only measure alk and dose equal amounts (of the diy solutions) when alk drops down.
After using up 1 g of the calcium and alk you dose magnesium according to the tank volume (300ml for my old 55g).
I guess once you get a feeling for how much you dose to keep alk up then you can more automate the system. But that system relies on the solutions to do equal additions of calcium and alk.
