I know this is a dumb question but does your tank automatically have calcium and mg or do you have to add it your self? I was wondering because I have 4 frags of Zoas which havn’t looked that have growing. However I do have a candy cane colony and a torch.

Both are part of the salt mix you used(or the saltwater if buying premade water).

Depending on the tank and corals some people need to dose calc/alk/mg because water changes cant keep it high enough. In your case you will be just fine with periodic water changes.

I use instant ocean reef crystals.

It will be just fine then(really any commercial salt will be). It is worth keeping an eye on parameters so if/when you start adding more stony corals you can see if the water changes are bot enough. Usually alkalinity is easiest to monitor for changes. Again though i think for now you will be just fine.
