calcium at 620

my apex dos went crazy yesterday and went on to dose 500ml of calcium into my 130 gallon sps tank in a 12 hours time frame. now my calcium reading is at 620 from 450. curious if i shud do a big water change to bring it down or let it come down naturally? will 620 kill off my sps? so far corals still looks fine with full polyp extension. pls advice tq

If it makes you feel any better I just tested and my calcium was 580ppm, just did a water change and I don't dose calcium only kalkwasser. I'm baffled.

I’ve ran that number for over year and had no side effects. I friend of mine ran his at 600 plus and also had no side effects

Mine is at 500+ mark for around 6 months now I have stopped dosing calcium for 5 months now and do large water changes every two weeks and it still does not change.
All my corals etc are happy but I have very slow growth rate.

I've only got a few sps, all psammocora.

Corals are not particularly sensitive to calcium levels since it is not a limiting growth factor most of the time. If it is at least mid 300's ppm and up it should be OK (levels way high will begin to induce more precipitation of calcium carbonate).

It's like a horse being beside a stream to drink. Doesn't matter if it is 2 feet across or 2 miles. He won't drink too much just because there is more water.

The same is not true of alkalinity. A coral may take it up faster and grow skeleton faster than it can grow tissue to cover it if the conditions are not optimal.

I once butt-dialed a liter of calcium into an 80G system. Water was milky.

No deaths occurred. It only killed off my self esteem and 6 hours of my life spent cleaning every inch of the tank, sump and all mechanicals from the precipitate.
