Hello everyone, I am wondering what the easiest and cost affective way to raise and maintain calcium, and alkalinity in reef tanks. I'm not a scientist and not Donald trumph...lol. Thanks

Reefing is like a box of chocolates, you never know whatcha gonna get!

I don't run a sump, currently run a canister. Do they all need a Co2 supply?

If you are running a canister on a reef tank get rid of it. All you need is good cured live rock, skimmer and water movement. Cannisters will cause you to have nitrate problems if not cleaned often. As far as calcium i use Redsea abc reef foundation and my ca,alk and mag always stay constant. I use the powder form and it last a long time and my tank is doing graet.

Are you running auto dosers, or dosing manually?

Liquid Calcium
Baking Soda
Unless your tank is full of SPS, your system isnt' going to be eating a ton of either, so it won't cost you a ton to do it this way.

I was thinking the 3 part kit from BRS. Anyone use it before?

I keep things simple and i dose manually. If i had the money maybe i would have dosers and all that good stuff. But i am old school and i have excellent results with what i am doing. These vendors want you to buy all there cool stuff but i would rather spend my money on cool corals.

I agree 100%

Pickling lime best 3$ ever spent!

Kalkwasser is same as the BRS 3 part system right? Comes in powder form, gets mixed with RO? Do you need to use a doser, or can you dose it manually?

plus a little mrs wages picking lime in the top off water.

that link has in the first post a link to dr randy holmes-farley's diy two part system. Very easy and inexpensive to implement.
