Calcium Reactor for dummies

Hey All,

Its a long way out for me, but I'm interested in starting my research into Calcium Reactors. I'm looking for any good articles you may have or have read that entail setup, stabilization, maintenance, etc etc on Calcium Reactors.

Also wondering if there is one that comes with everything that you need? I see a lot on BRS where you have to buy a whole list of items with it.

Appreciate the help in educating a CaRx newbie

You typically have to buy the Calcium Reactor, a Co2 Regulator and a C02 tank. (the CO2 tank will need to be filled locally). Carbonated beverage supply companies usually have them, as do companies that sell gases.

aquacave sells a tank, regulator, lines and media package with controller. you would have to buy the reactor and feed pump separately though.

i run mine off a pH controller using the stream method and it works great. i feed with an MJ pump and not peristaltic, but it is stable since i stream the output. if i was dripping i would go with a peristalic pump.

i use an aquamaxx reactor and it's great for my application

Melvs reef has a whole video on how to set up a calcium reactor I wastched it years back proberly 10 and i was able to run mine without a ph probe or a electronic celanoid valve But its much easier with one nevertheless I ran mine for years without it like i said Melvs reef has a great video on them though nowadays i would think theres plenty out there but a gravity fed Kalck washer drip or a good 2 part is just a good as a reactor imho

I am on my 5th week week since switching from 2 part dosing to a Calcium Reactor for my 165 Gal Reef. I was advised by a local professional to go with the Skimz reactor, Kamoer FX-STP peristaltic pump, and the Carbon Doser regulator. I use a 2nd PH Probe connected to my Apex to control Carbon Doser. Although my PH runs a tenth of a point less at 8.05 - 8.22 (versus 8.15 - 8.32), my calcium and alkalinity are a rock steady at 440 and 9.0. So far I am really happy with the switch.
