So with nothing to do after studying for my bio final next week, I decided to test my water and have basically got the same results 3 weekends in a row:

calcium: 470
alk: 8.3 (last weekend it was at 8.5)

My ph in 6.75 inside the reactor and I'm doing about 60 bmp.

How can I lower calcium without effecting alk. I'd really like to keep my alk at 8.5 but I'm not stressed about 8.2.

Thanks!

Turn off the reactor, continue to manually dose alkalinity and keep it stable. Once your calcium level falls to where you want it you can put your reactor back online.

every tank will create its SWEET SPOT for ALK and what you want my not be what your tank needs or SWEET Spot is. Ive learned that i get my dpm (Drops per Minute) for my effluent where i want it then LEAVE IT ( unless needing cleaned) and do all my adjustments via the C02 on my bottle. I blance my ALK not my DT Ph as a base line. PH in your DT can flux due to 02, or if your using Kalk, ect. as long as my ALk, Ca, and Mag are where i want them all else is simple but the on off process can work but this means you dont have a Ca Reactor that is best suited for your tanks needs or you dont know how to balance your tank and react once your DT Ph lowers which can be adjusted easily.
