Calcium Reactor suggestions ??

i feed my primary one off a "T" and valve from my main return pump, but i have others that i feed with a maxijet. doesn't need much...even with a maxijet you will be dialing it down to a drip more than likely.

get a GEO if you get one. i haven't used the others but i shopped around, watching them in action, and i have yet to see a bad remark about this product.

made in the usa and bulletproof. uses a dependable ehiem pump, easy to service and adjust, built in bubble counter. no joke, the thing is a tank

as for a regulator, i am using the one from aquarium plants dot com. their electronic one has been working great for me for about the 8 months i've owned it. it's maybe 40 bucks more than a reeffanatic but worth the extra ease and piece of mind (also a 3 year warranty which the reeffanatic doesn't have).

feed pump:

right now i am using a maxijet 1200 on my GEO 618 (the recommended pump). dosing pumps are supposed to be best. you really just want something with consistency. otherwise, the drip rate will fluctuate.

i am going to redo my plumbing though and run it off my new return pump. benny's right in that it doesn't need much. the GEO has a flow restrictor that brings it down a lot. if you think about it, the only flow being fed is the same as what's coming out of the effluent end.

i always had trouble keeping my Mag up until i put zeomag in my calcium reactor and now i have no problem at all.... you are all right a ph controler is a must as far as i'm concerned.... the Vortex also has an extra chamber to run phosban in....... check it out ...i love mine

I also had an MJ1200 initially but just made a manifold for a QuietOne and it runs two media reactors and my Ca reactor.

i did something similar with my return pump. aside from my frag tank feed pump, my return pump drives my entire system.

and this is how i reduced the 1/2" valve for the carx:

i also run a small dedicated gfo reactor on the effluent side of the reactor, as carx media is high in po4:

Nice setup Benny. When I upgrade, I'm gonna run everything off of the return. What pump are you using. I have been looking at the ATB Flowstar since I want to keep it in sump.

Benny: Lights look great... I like your idea about running the GFO inline behind the calcium reactor. If it can supply alk, it can strip the PO4. It might be a touch slower but it will keep me from adding it back in via the CaRx.

yeah, i would not rely on the calcium reactor's flow to remove your tank's phosphates...i have a larger reactor for gfo which is the primary unit for the system. this little piece is just to remove the po4 from the carx effluent so the main system's reactor doesn't have to take it out, too.

i would also only use gfo in-line after a second chamber of calcium media. i have read that low ph can release po4 from gfo...how true that is i don't know, but having it run in-line after a second reaction chamber helps raise the ph before it gets to the gfo.
