Hi, been researching calcium reactors. Up to this point my tank has been doing fine dosing saturated kalk. But dosing rate is getting close to evaporation rate so have to look at the options. If I went with dosing say Aquaforest 123 things get spendy in the long term. If I go with calcium reactor it's spendy first up but much less down the track and seems less work. Dosed Randy's recipe in my old tank and don't really want to mess with the mixing now.
Sorry just thinking out loud here. So calcium reactors. Been done a million times I know but would just like some input from those smarter than me. Having never used one I've been researching the hell out of them. Looked at spending up on a Deltech Twintech. Still interested but from what I can see runs at very low pH and your only control is on effluent rate. Great for simplicity but if I can run a reactor at higher pH and still have some level of simplicity and less inital outlay it would be good right. Enter the Tunze. No feed pump needed, self priming, can control outgoing effluent on feed line side with a needle valve so no clogging of needle valve, many less bits to fail.
I saw the video clip of setting a reactor up with a faster drip rate to prevent clogging and do most of the control of element input by pH controller. So from what I can gather have your effluent at the highest pH possible to get the job done. Sounds good to me.
I see a few guys here use the Tunze and are pleased with it. Have to buy a pH controller and a regulator so any input there would be much appreciated too please. The Carbondoser is about $600 landed here in Australia so an alternative would be nice! I see a lot of posts saying there's better out there for less but no specifics.
Anyhow rambling a bit so any input would be much appreciated thanks guys.
A pic of my tank is attached. Still young but getting there. 64x32x24". Made tank, stainless stand, sump and all myself. Kind of shooting for the minimalist look but with the most usable real estate possible and best "look downabilityness". Just added a bta paddock to the sump too.
