Calcium reactor with trident?

Anyone have a calcium reactor with trident? I have a 700gal system with a lg geo 818 reactor and a lg secondary chamber .

I was going to start dosing kalk .
Use calcium reactor 80% of dosing
And use trident with core 7 to do the other 20%

I would not dose Triton while running a calcium reactor. Trace element overdose.

Your cal reactor media already melts out skeletal trace elements, unless your using something like the Triton man made media.

That does rather seem like a step backwards. Though I don’t yet have a trident, I do plan on getting one. I’m also in the process of finally replacing my venerable MTC ProCal with a DIY unit and intend to run it continuously as I have always done and use trident to monitor/alert rather than actually intervene. I suppose if levels got low, one could adjust with a DOS dosing 2-part.

From my research and after speaking with neptune at last expo and speaking with triton labs on the phone the . Calcium reactor doesnt have all the trace elements needed. The trident system is "supposed " to be used with the core 7 . So the trident can talk to the dos and know what to dos to keep levels perfect. If i only used core 7 on my lg system it would be ridiculously expensive. So thats what i was gonna use cacium reactor for part of it and the core 7 to maintain it . I believe this is how Terence from neptune systems has been doing it for over a year . And not done a single water change due to the core 7 dosing all the elements needed. And doing a triton test offten to prove so.

Not sure how experienced you are in the reef hobby, but don't get too taken in by the marketing. The media you use for a CaRx will largely determine whether it supplies what your tank needs. Some media are man made, ostensibly more 'pure' but lacking in trace elements. Others are coral skeletons, so when they melt they put back into the water what was used to make them in the first place. I use the latter, and when I have my water tested it lacks only iron, so I dose that supplementally to the CaRx. Not saying you cannot or should not try to do as you propose, just that many of the claims I read seem debatable.

Not sure how this would result in overdosing trace elements. Only 80% of the trace elements would be replenished by using a calcium reactor for 80% of your needs. And the additional 20% of trace elements would be replenished by using Triton for the last 20%.

My understanding is that all Triton elements are dosed based on the amount needed. If calculating your need based on the remaining 20%, I’m not sure how this would be a problem.

If I’m missing something, please let me know.

Keep in mind that I’m not necessarily advocating for this method. Does seem a bit overly complicated and more prone to mistakes that *could* result in an overdose. I’m just saying that I don’t believe it will necessarily result in an issue if done properly.

Do experiment and report back what you find. I run kalk and a CaRx. Will add in 2-part down the road sometime once I get a Trident. I also have an Alkatronic and will end up running them both on the same system more than likely. Undecided on that one. Yes could be a total waste of resources, but oh well. My money to spend, lol.

Got trident coming this week . Also got my calcium reactor running and dialed in but had to shut it down and go back to dosing one of my valves was intermittently working valve will be in a few weeks ill keep everyone posted .

Parameters have been very stable all things considering .
