If it ain't broke... I like a Ca Rx because it makes my life easier. I've got a large system with several satellite tanks (frag tank, sump, fuge, Banggai tank, etc.) and am too lazy to get a routine going where I dose two (or three) part. Once the reactor is set, I can spend my time worrying about other fun mishaps;).

From what I understand... definitely not a necessity. Many very nice straight sps tanks run great on two part, they just keep parameters very consistent by regular frequent dosing. Dosing pumps can make the frequent dosing almost as easy as a calcium reactor.

Joe,
If i was you i would get a Kalk reactor/ stirrer..You can keep Alk and Cal and PH towards the higher side for now with just kalk..Ive seen some amazing SPS tanks with huge colonys with only useing kalk...Once your SPS get bigger you ALK/CAL demands will change then you may need to go with a Cal reactor...

Kalk = cheap investment..most bang for buck IMO

Agree. A calcium reactor is just one of many ways to keep your calcium consistent in your tank. Like Gamble said, you can buy yourself some two part, add some dosing pumps on timers, and automate is just as well as a calcium reactor can.

If you're looking to save a few bucks I'd go with Brs 2-part or something similar, dirt cheap compared to the name brand stuff.

does anyone have a good suggestion for a good brand of calcium reactors? so basically are they used to just take the extra work out of adding calcium to your tank?
