Latest raising reef episode looks at calcium reactors and why I think they are the best solution for replacing major elements.

Nice video.
Just like everything else in the hobby, there are other methods that work perfectly well with their setups.
I have used CaRx's in the past and would use one again once the demand is costing me too much to keep up. With the advancements of controllers and much more accurate dosing pumps it is possible to maintain a rock solid system with little tweaks necessary as the demand goes up or down, similar to a calcium reactor. For me, I travel a lot so if my service professional tells me my alkalinity is starting to fall then I can simply adjust my doses on the fly without worrying about him trying to tweak a calcium reactor.
For now, it is ESV B Ionic....

This is true but for many new hobbyists these controller setups are way out of there price range especially with all the other equipment required to run a reef tank if you need automation because you travel a lot then I makes sense for the piece of mind and abilities that remote control provides
With the introduction of automated testing and tailored dosing there will come a time when calibrating probes and topping up dosing containers is all that is required and this will certainly make the hobby accessible to everyone although I fear some intuition and valuable lessons that only the the hard times can teach will be lost and in a way the achievement of keeping a successful reef tank will be diminished some what
The challenge is what has kept me interested for over 12yrs and there is still so many new things to learn as we make new advancements in the hobby our understanding of how it all works will continue to unravel I just hope that all these new new technologies that aid us don’t lead to a dumbing down of the mechanics of how it all actually work relying to much on these devices.

Lol look what you did now I’ve gone off on a tangent.
