I know low 500's for Calcium is not so bad but I am trying to figure out why it has not been moving. Originally after adding some more corals over the last few months I was seeing Calcium dropping(Hanna).
So taking the much appreciated advice I was given here I purchased 2 part and started dosing according to label. After about a week it shot up to around 520-540. After that reading I cut the dosing in half. A few days later no change. I decided to stop dosing and watch the parameters. Calcium has not moved below the 520 range, my Alk has not changed much, its 8.5 now. My PH seems to ALWAYS be 8.4.
Just give it some more time and keep checking?

Other info:
I did not alter my water change routine, about 15%/week.
I am only talking about maybe 10 corals, none I would consider to be very large. Half are frags. So I understand the demand for Calcium will increase and I will need to continue dosing at some point.

If you're changing 15% (excellent) a week and you have small frags than I would not dose.
The biggest, most significant issues I have ever had in this hobby over 30 yrs is dosing when I did not need to.
Once the colones get big or you start to see significant coralline algae growth or purchase large clams than reconsider.
Continue to monitor and avoid swings especially to alkalinity.
Strive for values similar to NSW.

How big is the tank and what were the values pre-dosing?
