Calcium test kit not working

I've used salifert and red sea calcium test kits and it didnt work. The colours didnt change on any of them and also my hanna checker was off aswell, I know that because I was dosing a significant amount and it would read 276 the first day and then 24hrs later 275... what can I do? The only test kit that seemed to read was api but I'm sure its not that accurate. Every other test kit is working properly though, what can I do?

Interesting, i have the read sea nitrite test kit and It never reads, or is always been 0. Idk what to think. Ammonia and nitrates test work though.

Yes even the salifert phosphate wasnt working!

Hi i had that problem years ago and i think it turned out it was the brand of salt i was using thats about all i can recall have you had your lfs try

Alright! Well that's good to know since I'll be switching salt soon but it sucks that, that is an issue.

If it does not change it could mean your calcium is higher than the kit can test for.
I had just had the issue with some bad salt where the magnesium was off the chart.

I have also had bad test kits before namely Salifert.

Did you fill the plunger up again? I had Mag up real high once and once you get done with the first plunger I had to fill it up again and the color changed after a few more drops putting my Mag at around 1750. Salifert test kit.

I tried double dosing the salifert with out luck, but didnt refill it up again with the red sea... I shall try that, but how would you tell what the number of ml would be if you filled the syringe up again?

I recall some semi hostile threads on the Hanna calcium...anyway I don't like/trust those dilution type calcium test regardless

I" think" you just add the number from the 1st syringe (10 mls) to the total used .
Is your salinity real high or low maybe? I understand that can throw off a test .
