I've traditionally used water straight from the RODI, but could I use the Apex 53,000 solution since I'll have some left over in a few days? What do y'all recommend? What is your favorite refractometer?

Such a fluid may be ok, but it depends on what they added to reach 53 mS/cm. if it mimics seawater in composition (like the Pinpoint does), then it willbe suitable. If it does not match seawater chemically, then it may not be. There is no reason it should mimic seawater for its intended purpose, so the manufacturer could tells us, or a careful test of it would be necessary.

Last year on black Friday brs has a refractometer plus calibration fluid for $25. Look out.for it maybe they will do it again. I believe I ordered mine on thanksgiving day last year
