Long story short... I pulled this acan off of a rock that it was encrusting onto. The polyp I pulled off started to die, now a month later it is creeping to other polyps. About 3 are gone now. I really don't want to lose this acan. I just dipped it in revive with some iodine mixed in.

From what I am reading online I should frag it... If that is the case then I will have to purchase one of those inland $289 saws which I am willing to do but I want to make sure that fragging it is the right thing to do.

This pic is showing the polyp I pulled off that started the decay. It is shrunken in because I just dipped it.

Here is a pic of it that I took yesterday to show that the other side is healthy.

Please I really need an expert here.

You don't need a fancy saw to cut them, sure it makes I easy, but when I fragged mine I used a hammer and a chisel, a big knife and hammer works too. Any polyp you cut in half will usually recover.

dremel with a Cut off wheel ..............cut around it and tap it with a hammer and chisel to get it completely off

If I have to frag this thing I am buying the saw... No talking me out of it. I have done my research on how to properly frag acans with minimal loss. My question is do I need to frag it to save it or is there another solution?

If fragging is the only solution this is the saw I will be buying.

Also what is the best thing to sit them in once they have been cut? Links to products please.

I think, if you're getting a saw, use the saw. I think you should frag it.
I am no acan expert, I've never kept one, but I do this (besides the saw part) with all my receding corals.

I would frag the section that is dying immediately, it can spread pretty fast to the other heads. I regret not fragging the section off of my colony that I had, it was a good size on the disk about the size of my palm with about 15 heads, the head died off and in less then a week and a half the entire colony died, I was new to the game I didn't know what to do.

frag it if you want to save it! I lost mine with just dipping :(
I will do it NOW!

I have stopped recession on acans like this. Give it a dip in revive for four minutes all the time blowing water on it. Then immediately give it a dip in iodine solution also blowing water on the acan.

Then put it in shaded spot with medium flow. Now you have to watch if the recession worsens over the next day. If this did not stop recession time to frag the baby.

Luckily mine stopped and are recovering well.
