Clam unattached itself during the night and landed in the middle of my furry mushroom’s colony , I couldn’t leave it the cos when the mushies are all expanded they’ll cover the clam so I put the rock upide down on the sand hoping it’ll unattach again

So its still attached to the rock? The rock just fell? If so I'd put it back with a little superglue gel on the rock to rock surfaces. I would not leave it like that.

It was attached to a rock high up and during the night it unattached onto a rock of mushies
Still there in the shade
Hopefully overnight it’ll release its foot

Is the clam still in the sand face/mantle down? If so, turn the rock over so the mantle doesn't get damaged. Mushrooms are a dime a dozen, so I wouldn't worry about them. Also, your clam is a maxima and not a squamosina as mentioned in your first post.

How do you know it’s a maxima ? It was sold to me as a squamosina , 55e
I wonder why it wasn’t happy up top ?

The mantle and shell are 100% a maxima, probably one of the Red Sea cultured ones. Squamosina have very distinct shells and mantle and look nothing like maxima.

The byssal threads are attached to an organ, so if you don't cut them at the attachment point (on the rock) you risk injuring the organ and possibly killing the clam. It will most likely move within a day or so. I would also recommend that you buy James Fatherree's book on clams, there's a wealth of information that you should know before you going further with keeping clams.

Maximas prefer a solid surface, much like most clams that attach for their whole lives. Squamosina actually come from shallower water than maxima, but I would provide at least 300+ micro moles, if not more for the maxima. The clam will tell you if you aren't providing it with enough light. If there's not continual new growth on the shell, you simply do not have enough light.

It's all a learning process and I always recommend James' book to new and experienced clam keepers. I've been caring for these guys since the 90's and I'm still learning more about them all the time. Clams are complex animals, unlike corals, which are very simple in my book.

Trouble there is I read a review on my light and it’s supposed to good for max 2/5 par or micro moles as you call it
