Hello all, I'm in the process of a 50 gal & 75 gal reef builds both on same stand. These are both frameless and rimless. What do you guys put in between your stands and tanks other than the usual 3/4" plywood and styrofoam??? The tanks came with 1/8" styrofoam which I'm sure is going to get teared apart from my boys in no time, thats why I'm not using that. Oh and almost forgot, the stand is most likely going to be out of 80/20 aluminum (1515 + 1530) Thanks you all any input is much appreciated...happy reefing!!

I just have the 1/8" foam under my 50g

I use 3/4" plywood for the top of the stand then 1/2" pink foam from lowes, home depot or menards. My tank is 60x30x18

It really depends on the tank and how its built. I have a Marineland 60 and they say not to use anything under the tank due to the bottom glass sitting inside the sidewalls of the tank rather then the sidewall sitting on top of the bottom glass. Hope that makes sense. If the 4 side panels sit on top of the bottom glass then I would use foam, the pink or blue stuff.

My SCA rimless 66 came with a very thin piece of foam board. black on both sides. When we placed the tank on it, we cut it out so that you could not see it really on the edge. My tank has the outer panels sealed to the outer edge of the bottom.

I used a 1/8" black foam pad. Not visible from front and sides.
+1 on the Yoga mats. I used one from Amazon to level my holding tank.

I put a 3/4" (I think) piece of pink compressed foam (the stuff with link panther on from home depot) beneath my 93 rimless cube)

I used black yoga mat which is like 3/4inch thick. Works great

Yea I have the sca tanks and I just looked at how it's built, the 4 sides sit to the floor and the bottom glass is inside at all four. They provided a 1/8" foam, but unfortunately the foam is not fully black, I might go bare bottom so gotta get something black, thank you

Yea I have the sca's too and unfortunately the foam is not black it's more like a wood, dark color and great advice on the cut outs, tnx

I have also have two main concerns...
1. I'm all for aesthetics on this one and this build is gonna have the open stand look so every detail counts, has anyone tried using acrylic or pvc?.

2. On the top I have to secure the panel with counter-sunk bolts. Do u Guys think 1/8" foam or yoga mat is enough to prevent my tank from bursting or should I go at least 1/4"

Thanks guys I'm just trying to do it right the first time and making sure my fam is safe.

I don't think much is required. All its for is to ensure even pressures across the surface.

You might call SCA and ask what they would do. Im really surprised about the construction of the tank and have foam. I don't understand how Marineland will tell me that foam will cause too much pressure on the bottom glass when the side panels are next to, not on top of the bottom. It made sense when they told me this but if other manufactures build the same way and say to use foam under the tank then I have no clue.
