Calling all Scoly gurus and owners for help

[CRW Reefer]

My one and only super awesome scoly that I've had for 5+ months (thriving and growing) has started to recede. Anyone ever experience this and have any solutions or knowledge of what it might be from?

Lol lets not get into parameters, as most of you know I don't keep track and haven't for years. The only thing that has changed recently is adding a carbon reactor for first time for maybe 10 days tops, but has since been turned off. Any help or thoughts would be awesome.

Sorry man, but paramaters need to be gotten into...Just because you haven't checked for years doesn't mean that's the right way to go.

Otherwise, have you been feeding it? If it's a very low nutrient tank I could see it slowly recessing from a lack of feeding as a possibility

how close is what looks to be a favia behind the z/p to it? Could be stinging?

I have had 5 scolys for very long and all of them are very healthy. I keep mine in a good amount of light spot in the tank. I see yours is in the shade, and I think your coral is receding because its getting weak. Even if you feed it, light is needed by most corals...as far as water parameters, scolys are tough things, and live naturally in lagoons, where water isn't that clean. I would move it to the light IMo

what kind of coral dip do you have? dip it and then give it a bit more light. Either coral rx or revive is good as a dip.

I would say a Lugol's dip might be more beneficial in this situation.

I did actually move it yes but only like 3" but as has been said might be that Favia stinging it

I have revive, I might try that. ive never dipped lps before is there an precautions?

no I dont usually spot feed it. What should I be spot feeding it? I broadcast feed mysis, reef chili, and all the rogers food

Why is that? Do you mean the Logul's Iodine drops? Is this better for LPS?

there is no precaution to dipping LPS, general rule is you dip every coral before they enter your tank. Lugol's is very powerful dip but it might be too harsh for a weaken coral like yours.

Definitely spot feed your LPS, especially scollies. You can feed them fauna marin LPS pellets or simply a frozen mysis shrimp once or twice a week.

Favias have long tentacles (up to 3 inches) so they should not be crowded.
