Long story short, I’ve had this toadstool since early 2018 and it has ascended from where the little one is in the picture to where it is now. 3-4 weeks ago it closed up as it’s prone to do at shedding. I plugged in the carbon and waited...and waited. Since it’s at the very top of the water column and get minimal flow across the crown I’ve been blowing it out with a turkey baster? For scale trunk is about 3” in diameter

Do I just wait it out?

Increase the flow. Across the top toward the leather. It look shiny so its shedding

Definitely wait it out. I had one that I thought was certainly toast. It looked like a sad ball of silly putty and it is now coming back. Probably three months I have waited. It has new green polyps on it and I will show you another photo in the morning.

Thanks all. I will try to get more flow into the crown.
when I was going through all the possibilities of things to try, thought about slitting a side to allow more water in the crown. Crazy I know but I was worried about it.
just an FYI here. It grew right towards the radion G4 on AB+ at 75%. Definitely not a low light coral.

Here is the sad little toadstool that I thought was toast. It was so bad at one point I could see inside it’s structure. Almost three months later it is coming back. Amazing little creatures!

They can be and they can be a higher light coral. They adjust very well to a wide verity of conditions. The reason they tend to be a beginner coral.
I love leathers no matter how they are classified.

I also have a Tyree Long Tentacle Neon that has dragged itself many times. It got so large last time I traded it to LFS and started another couple of offspring in the tank. It was time for a bit of a change.

I have a large one in an established tank with very stable parameters. Some days it opens, some days it doesn't... They have a mind of their own.

I had one that closed for 2 months and got really crusty. I gently brushed it with a toothbrush to get some of the shed off. That seemed to help it shed the rest of the crust off. It's in good flow but just needed that extra help I guess.
