Hoping someone from Tropic Marine can help your loyal customers!!! Big fan of your products, including All For Reef.

A number of your customers (including me) have recently experienced your TM Pro Reef Saltwater mix NOT mixing clean like it used to.

Now everyone is aware of the Supply Chain issues that companies have been facing lately. But what has changed in the TM Pro salt mix?

Cleaning my saltwater mixing barrel is bear. As you can see from the pictures below, I’m now getting residue from TM Pro salt, which I NEVER got before.

I'm having the same issue!

Have you noticed a change in your tank lately?
That’s a great question! I have not noticed any change in my aquarium with this salt mix but if I don’t get any answers from Tropic Marine I might switch to a cheaper saltwater mix.

Sorry going to by cynical here.....

OMG the unicorn of salts is having issues!

Makes me smile even harder knowing I haven't been paying for the unicorn salt all this time, and still using plain old purple box IO. Which also has some "brown crud" in it. But i have learned to deal with it fairly easy.

Unfortunately with my setup, I have a narrow opening at the top of my mixing container which limits access. I also run my heater and mixing pump wires through a fixed hole at the top of the mixing container. Cleaning my 25g mixing container is a pain!!!

I have never cleaned my pails, and they are just as grey as they were new 5 years ago.

You just have to know how to alleviate the "brown crud" problem.

BRS actually did a video on this exact topic, and what they did/do, is what I do now.

I'm so tired of big brand companies making things like salt such a marketing craze. I used to use purple IO and had no problems (Now I dose and do no water changes)

I’m sure every member of this forum could provide their own anecdotes.

Is the implication that there are simply no differences of consequence between salts other than price?

This is what changed. All my old buckets say made in Germany. The new one I'm having issues with is made in Turkey.

When did you purchase that bucket.

I'll check my box of salt that I purchased about 1.5 months ago.

I got a new bucket last month at the LFS. I haven't noticed any difference. I'll check where it was made when I get home.

You figured it out! I will no longer be buying TMP unless there is someway I can be sure it’s the German Version!

Simple solution to all of this crud. Put a RODI canister with a cheap, sediment filter in line from your salt container. Catches all the crud before it makes it into your DT or sump.

It’s a pain, been dealing with it for 18 +/- months now.

Not necessarily but yes in short. Dosing between water changes can cheaply and easily make up for the lack/excess of elements in salt mixes. Buying salt mixes for ~$45 more isn’t worth it compared to the cheap cost of dosing and longevity of dosing chemicals.
People make different salts sound like two different things. People make instant ocean sound like mud and Tropic Marin to be a fine wedding cake. At the end of the day, they’re all NaCl with different elements mixed in. And I don’t believe one brand of salt should be considered garbage because of a different level of these elements due to what can be changed through dosing.
Now if you want to waste a bunch of money in this already expensive hobby as it is and want to have the right parameters from the get go without any dosing, sure this is the best method
Hope this answers what you were asking, may have read it wrong
