I’m calling all the reefers here that have amazing beautiful mature mixed reef tanks. Tell us what you do or don’t do, what you feed, what you dose ( product), water change? And how often

Yes of course! If you have a mature tank.. and you can keep coral alive what do you do?

I was just weeding out tanks that are a few months old

Ya what's mature and what's amazing to you? My tank is going on 10 yrs. The secret? Feed your fish and corals what they eat in the ocean! Nothing dried in a bottle.

coral is easy, correct light, rock solid stable parameters in water chemistry, and some trace N and P for them to consume.
Amazing?
To some yes, to some no.

A version of this 120G reef has been going for 10 years. Redid the rock work a couple times.

No filtration, no dosing, just 45-65g water changes once per month. Colonies don't look huge but they are constantly trimmed back.

I echo what @sfin52 says about beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I don't think my tank is all that nice but I think that's a common theme in that everybody criticizes their tank and doesn't think it's as nice as everyone else thinks it is lol...

My 25'ish cube has been up since 2011 that was transferred over from a 55 gallon that was running for who knows how long before that.

I have a 3'ish gallon HOB fug, dose BRS 2 part, have an ATO and do water changes every one or two months. I feed fresh hatched BBS 1-2 times a day, 10-20 ml of phyto and have a pod culture. I have been doing NSW water changes...

6yrs old, I dose kalk only for years...then 2 part just this year. Nothing fancy but I like it.

Carx for stability with no controller or ph meter
Dose trace by hand
Dose small amount of carbon to feed the bacteria and corals by hand
14 fish fed well
250 watt 14k MH 8hrs a day.
50% live rock.
Stability wins for me!

90 g
Fx4 canister
2 usa current eflux 2100 gph running at 30%
Reef octopus 1000 classic hob
Ehiem 300w Heater controlled by inkbird
Hydroplanet t5ho 4 bulb fixture
Fluval marine mostly for white ramp up and down and full blue
Diy fish food
Once a week benepets reef food or roids
3 times a week seachem fuel and phyto

Zoas, gsp, leathers, elegance, horn coral,rfa, bta, lobo, montipora digitata, shrooms

10g water change once a week
1 month complete cleaning of canister

Dosing by hand alk Calc and mag right now seachem but looking at brs 2 part as soon as I'm finished with seachem (cheaper )

5 year old mixed reef. Most started from frags. Dose nothing except kalkwasser in the ato reservoir and 10 gallon weekly water changes with Instant Ocean. Filter sock, skimmer and UV. Broad cast LRS reef frenzy once a day. That's It.

Well I wouldn't exactly call it beautiful compared to some I have seen here, maybe crude lol...but my little slice of the ocean has been 25 years. I've learned to not overstep my bounds in that time, many lessons learned. Used to run all kinds of media, canister filters etc back in the day and had a good chat with my go to lfs years back. His advice? Dump it all, let your rock do the work, if you don't have the coin, stay simple, and you'll enjoy the hobby more at your budget.
I do not dose if I can help it, test basic bi-weekly, have two T5's , and a pretty good programmable Fluval LED to bump it considerably, Feed Omega One Reef, My own blend mix from local sourced seafood (no antibiotics), Nori sheets, East Coast dried Dulse, really well priced (my tang loves it), Reef roids every two/ three days or Cyclops for the corals, 90 gallon ,change out about 5% weekly with Tropic Marin .
I love my inverts (numerous although you cant see many) , and given a ton of that Kenya Tree weed to local reefers lol. It's all easy softies which are within my wheelhouse... Anyway sorry with the novela....here ya go.

Also, not sure how I've managed to keep that orange gorgonian alive 2 years. Heard difficult, but the feedings seem to be on par....a miracle for this reefer lol.
