I just got my garage sump up and running. I have all the over flows going into one pipe. The problem is is putting a ton of bubbles in the sump and causing an evap issue. As it is now I have a pipe the go's all to the bottom of the sump. I need your guy's and gal's thoughts on eliminating the bubbles.

Now go!!!

The Bubbles Aren't The Problem
It is the unlimited fresh air that is causing the evaporation. Make some kind of lid. ;)

The Bubbles Are The Problem
The bubbles cause their own problems though - salt spray and salt creep being the two worst since they can actually cause damage. Generally noise is an accompanying issue.

Reducing the speed and/or volume of the water will be at the core of any solution.

Lower water flow will help, is probably the easiest thing to try, and may solve it - make sure you are not running needlessly large amounts of flow. 2x or 4x your display volume in GPH is sufficient in most cases.

Using larger diameter drainpipe will also help.

Containing the bubbles in some kind of a bubble chamber is probably also a good strategy.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at with all those pictures, but I'm seeing maybe 1 1/2 inch pipes joining in with other 1 1/2 pipes just to exit at 1 1/2 inches.

Might I suggest a reverse Durso. Or if that doesn't look like it would work, you could always try what I termed the Rube Goldberg bubble trap, HERE in my build thread .....post # 35

I am so going to barow that idea. My problem is my return is tight against sump and I can't move it. So I had a thought and I was wondering if think it would work. Give me your thoughts on it please.

I would try a reverse durso first. Easy and inexpensive to build. Here's what I'm talking about:

Water draining down hits the tee.....water goes down, bubbles and air go up leaving through the little hole in the top of the cap.

That is one idea.

I would want it to be between one and three pipe sizes bigger than the drain plumbing. As big as practically possible, really.

Realize, you are creating a protein skimmer. ( any enclosed bubble source.) You do not want to create one that is ejecting foam at the top of that little tube so large diameter will be crucial. (Experience.) ;)

So the water comes out the bottom? I would have to make it 3"-4" pipe seing how my drain is 1.5" I have the room to make it big.

Yes, the water comes out the bottom.

Change that Tee to a reducer Tee so the main pipe is 3 or 4", and the drain emptys to the side, make the top portion about 6" and put something over the top to stop salt spray out the hole, like a yogurt cup. And put the lover section all the way to the bottom with like a 1/2" gap. It will work much better with the larger pipe diameter, size depends a bit on flow but bigger is better.

For noise issues use a bean animal siphon overflow, and on the non siphon line use the reverse herbie to reduce what bubbles spray and noise is left.
