I have 2 clownfish that have been together for almost 9 months. A platinum and a picasso. They are in a 40 breeder divided with another pair of clowns on the other side. They've have a few disagreements during that time, some twiching, chasing ect. Both were juv added at the same time. I've always thought the platinum was the female, as the other would do most of the submitting. Both have been getting along fine for the last several months. After a long summer some bubble algae took over the rock. I took 75% of the rock out and left them with a few pieces and a clay pot. Next day the picasso is the full of anger, platinum has nips out of its tail and is not allowed to be with-in a arms length of the picasso or else. What gives? Did i just find my female after all?

Really about the same. But man, did i flip a switch by removing that rock. It's like the Picasso has never seen the platinum before.

Bummer. You may have to remove one of the clowns and try pairing it with a different, much smaller clown.

What gives is what normally happens when there is more than one pair in a tank. It will work in the short term, but in the end the vast majority of the time a pair forms and the other clown(s) are no longer welcome.

I would pick the most dominate one, and the smallest, and sell the other 2.

The tank is divided, so they are not all together.

Unfortunately, I agree with everyone else, you need to switch them out. Keep the one you like most and get a new "much smaller" mate to go with her.

platinum n picasso pair

U can try ,taking the Picasso out for 3-5 days out the tank redo the tank move stuff around let the platinum chill one u drop the Picasso it will think is in someone's house not its own house it will forget n all that cockyness wil go away bcuz the Picasso is in someone's else house n has to respect that ,it work with my pair

Things have calmed down in a few weeks since the first post. The Picasso is still the boss. But, they will feed together without much of a fuss and the attacks have dropped to just a harmless charge once in awhile. So, i guess we'll see.

Good luck, hopefully they will pair off, but hearing about the agression, it doesn't sound like they will. Again, good luck with them!

sorry, I'm late but I was gonna say that they are probably sorting things out. as long as one is not getting open wounds or cannot eat, most of the time, they'll work it out. I'm glad they are getting along better. good luck and hope they pair up.
