Came hone from work and found this... help is appreciated.

So I came home from work and found my 1.5 year old ricordia half melted away overnight. I have anything from mushrooms, zoas, lps and a bunch of acros and this was the only coral affected.

Parameters have been stable the last few months

Alk 8.0 (salifert and elos kits)
P04 .05-.08 (Nyos and elos high res kit)
N03 5-6 ppm (Nyos)
Cal 480 (salifert)
Mag 1450 (salifert)

Also just to note nothing has changed as far as dosing, lighting, salt or maintenance.

The only thing that comes to mind is coral warfare or chemistry. Curious if the other mushrooms are battling for space

Lobo could have reached it. I did notice a tube directly at the sand bed at the bottom of the rock.

Kill two birds with one stone. Move the rock away from the lobo and remove the tube from the rock. Then let's see if any of those is the culprit.

My reasoning on splitting is that if it was stung/eaten, then it surely wouldn't be fully puffed up and looking so healthy.

The Lobo can throw out mesenterial filaments at night and literally digest other corals. Not sure if different species of mushroom coral get along. From the pics it looks like your missing heads of the mushroom or am I seeing this wrong?

Yeah it looks like 1-2 heads just flat out melted. I guess after you mention the filaments it’s possible the lobo could be the culprit I’ll space them out some more.

Watch the other mushrooms as well. I'm not sure if different species can play nice or not. Kept different types of mushrooms but never in close proximity. Check on the coral a few times at night as the battling might occur then. You have some really nice corals.

The mushrooms on that rock have been there for months and they are always touching is it likely that all of a sudden they are fighting?

I'm honestly not sure, I've never kept mushrooms together unless they were the same species. In a reef tank anything is possible though.

I hear ya. I moved the lobo over as much as I can, I’ll keep an eye on things and I’ll also do a full parameter check after dinner just to be safe.

If they had been together for some time, then it's highly unlikely that's the cause.

Move the rock and let's see if it improves.
